As is so often the case in life, after the "dreams" come the real thoughts. Will it remain a beautiful dream or can it be realized after all? Basically, in the case of the Enzianwiese and the alpine hut, it is not that difficult to make it come true. But: If you have any doubts about whether your dream is the right one for you, read on now, I have a few tips for you! Just as you wouldn't go on a beach vacation uninformed and unprepared - after all, you want to know where the hotel is, what it offers and even how much it costs - the same should apply to an alpine hut vacation.

Where is your alpine hut?Location & Arrival

There are alpine huts that can be rented, which stand all alone somewhere on the mountain or in the forest, usually with a wonderful view, but really lonely. And then there are others that are located in a small alpine hut village, where there may even be an alpine inn and where it can be quite sociable. The altitudes at which alpine huts can be rented also vary greatly - from a thousand meters with an alpine character to 2500 meters on the slopes and peaks of our mountains. A little soul-searching: does your body like such high altitudes? If in doubt, start lower down, it's just as beautiful there! If you (have to) secretly ask yourself whether your body, soul and mind can or really want to endure this loneliness, look around for a middle ground between solitude and conviviality. For example, an alpine hut in a secluded location, but within walking distance of a managed alpine hut.

Wondering how to get up to your alpine hut and the blooming gentian meadow? If you're thinking of a hike with bag and baggage, these times are actually over for rentable alpine huts and only current for high alpine refuges. You can get to almost any mountain hut by car. That's better, because backpacks can be quite heavy, can't they? If you want to travel by train in an environmentally conscious way, no problem. The alpine hut landlord will pick you and your luggage up and take you to your alpine hut.

The equipment of your alpine hut is importantFrom the outhouse to the sauna area

The equipment of your alpine hut is a very important point to make your alpine hut vacation a success. If you want to keep it simple, for example with solar power and a wood-burning stove, but with running water and a toilet, and don't need any luxury on the mountain, there is a wide range on offer. While we're at it: If you are looking for an outhouse at an alpine hut for nostalgic reasons - this offer is also rare. But if you don't want to miss out on a wellness area or similar during your vacation, there are also plenty of wonderful options.

Which brings us to the prices. They are quite moderate, depending on the facilities and the location of the hut. You will find the prices in the detailed hut description. In all cases, with the exception of rooms in alpine inns, it is always about the whole hut, whereby the number of people that can be accommodated is of course taken into account. In other words: the smaller the hut, the cheaper it is. Take this opportunity to consider whether you need several bedrooms or whether one four-bed room would be enough for everyone.

And who are you taking to the mountain pasture?Of course you will say: All those who are dear to me!

Maybe not all at the same time, but all at the same time. As with everything, you need to think about a few things beforehand. Let's start with your baby. There are of course mountain huts with baby and toddler equipment, which makes things easier. The smaller the children are, the more important the altitude is. Don't aim for Großglockner altitude straight away! The older the children get, the more of a paradise it becomes for them on the mountain pasture. This is confirmed time and again by enthusiastic families. As a rule, children really enjoy the "adventure of alpine pastures and huts".

If you first have to persuade your partner to go on an alpine hut vacation because he or she is, for example, a fan of rushing sea waves or a convinced city vacationer, it will probably be a little problematic. It might then be better if you grab a friend for your alpine hut project... But: There are of course also alpine huts that have their own bathing pond and are very popular. That would be a classic vacation compromise, and there's something to be said for that. And if elderly grandmas or grandpas want to come along, don't choose the mountain hut with the steepest stairs to the sleeping quarters.

For all of these questions, it is best to clarify in advance whether your companions are also fellow dreamers and what they can imagine an alpine hut vacation to be like, but above all what they would like to do during an alpine hut stay. Incidentally, this also applies to you, the initiator of such an alpine vacation. But you've probably already thought about this on the imaginary gentian meadow and the dream alpine hut.

Where is the best place to start? All well and good, but ...

... how do you get to your alpine pasture and hut so well prepared? It's actually not that difficult. Browse around a bit on the internet, take a look at many of the alpine huts available for rent, maybe even have catalogs sent to you, you know, for the feel. Then choose two or three huts that you think would be right for you and, of course, your companion. And then just get on the phone, in this case because of the personal contact with the alpine hut landlord or landlady. Believe me, they know everything about their alpine hut and the alpine pasture, they will actively support you.

So that the dream mentioned here at the beginning becomes reality, perhaps this spring! And yes, spring naturally comes a little later in the mountains - so you still have plenty of time to look forward to it.
