Winter magic at the farm

The farm Sunnhof in Upper Austria is a place where you can especially enjoy the cold season. Take in the view of snow-covered Lake Irrsee, enjoy cosy moments on the farm and meet Katrin, your warm-hearted host who invites you to get to know real farm life.

Since she and her husband took over the farm in 2021, a lot has changed. The former dairy farm was transformed into a state-of-the-art chicken farm with farm shop. This way, Katrin can perfectly combine family, agriculture and welcoming guests.

For more than 60 years, guests have spent unforgettable holidays here - the Sunnhof farm is a charming location in winter too.

Upper Austria - A Paradise for Food Lovers Fresh Bread, Delicious Cheese, Tasty Dumplings

Upper Austria is a land of hearty culinary delights. The local delicacies on the menu are one of a kind. Are you craving “Mühlviertler Leinölerdäpfel” (mashed potatoes with flax seed oil), “Innviertler Speckknödel” (dumplings filled with bacon), “Linzer Torte” (shortcake with nuts and redcurrant jam) or a fresh, pan-roasted fish from Lake Traunsee? These mouth-watering delights taste especially good. Why? Because they are made with locally grown, seasonal products and prepared with a great deal of love.

A huge variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs grows in the farmer’s gardens and in the fields. Some of our family farms bake bread with a crispy crust using home-grown grains only. You can't get milk any fresher than right from the barn. It’s the basic ingredient for delicious cheese, yoghurt and quark - produced directly on the farm. Taste these mouth-watering delights on the breakfast table! Would you like to collect your egg from the henhouse yourself? You’re welcome to peek over the farmers’ shoulder when they harvest their produce. If you’re lucky, the farmer might give away one of her secret recipes. Yes, the table on the farm is laden with culinary treats. Enjoy your meal!

Upper Austria Is Rich in Tradition On the Farm, You Are Part of It!

On the farm, you can experience local customs and traditions at first hand whether it’s the lively maypole celebrations, bonfires to celebrate summer solstice or Thanksgiving. At these special occasions, people wear the traditional garment. It might be the lederhosen or an indigo blue-dyed dress, depending on the region. During Advent, life is calming down on the family farms. Grandpa tells fairy tales, mum bakes biscuits and everyone’s quiet on Christmas eve, when the whole family goes to the barn burning incense and palm branches in a pan (“Räuchern”). That’s an unforgettable experience for guests of all ages! During your farm holiday in Upper Austria, you’ll be rewarded with a restorative break and wonderful memories.

Life on a farm is exciting and diverse. You’ll be amazed! There’s a time to work and a time to contemplate, a time to harvest and a time to celebrate. What these times all have in common: traditions, customs and culinary delights from the farm always play an important role

Our family farmers in Upper Austria are looking forward to welcoming you!
