And who can come to your alpine hut?Who should be your companion?

As with any vacation, your companion is the most important thing, unless you are a soloist and find yourself in the best company there is, your own. Before you have booked - or will book - the Almhütte, you should think carefully about who suits you and, above all, who suits an Almhütte. Children of all ages are also a great addition to an alpine hut vacation, with babies it can be a little more complicated. But with good planning it will be wonderful.

Alpine hut vacations are perhaps not exactly ideal for cementing relationships, because both are a little challenging. But who knows, maybe that's why alpine huts are good? Peace and quiet, lots of time to talk, no problems from outside .... You may have had to persuade friends to go on an alpine hut vacation first. Once they're up there, they'll probably quickly turn into ideal vacation partners and volunteer to take on certain tasks, such as heating the stove in the morning.

Profane souvenirs on the mountain pastureA small packing list for your vacation

If you think about what you should take with you to the mountain pasture, it probably won't be that little. In my opinion, the most important thing is actually warm clothing. Climate change or not, it can get very cold and even snow very quickly on an alpine pasture, even in midsummer. So, better pack an extra warm sweater and warm trousers. Also think about the night. There are always enough blankets in the mountain huts, but it should be warm underneath, right? For sleeping: Your own sleeping pad can work wonders, especially for children. Don't forget rainwear, because you can't do much with an umbrella on an alpine pasture! Although: The old alpine farmers 100 years ago also went up to the cattle with an umbrella in their rucksack - today they come by car, in an anorak and with a big rain hat.

Of course, shoes are very important on an alpine hut vacation. They should be comfortable, robust and waterproof, i.e. mountain or sports shoes. Please don't laugh, but I've seen some great high heels on alpine hut guests. On the alpine pasture, however, they inevitably turn from deadly chic to murderous, even dangerous. And another thing: hut shoes don't have this cozy name for nothing. A pair of thick socks would complement the defense against the cold - see above - very well.

Take your smartphone, notebook and co with you?

Basically, I say yes. Firstly, because it is (almost) possible to operate these devices in most mountain huts with the right equipment. If you want to take your equipment with you to the mountain hut, ask the hut landlord whether it makes sense to do so, as there are, of course, exceptions to reception. And secondly, I'm in favor of yes, because I would never advise doing without digital equipment, as I don't know how much it means to you personally. But once you've "familiarized" yourself with the alpine hut vacation, you'll probably find that you don't need or switch on your devices very often or at all. A little story in passing: I met a young man who only went up to the mountain hut if his constant companions were allowed to join him. At the top, he told me: "I just don't have time for my smartphone. There's so much to do and experience up there."

Another little tip: When hiking, make sure you have your cell phone charged and switched on. You never know when you might need information, help or similar.

What else should - or must - be taken to the mountain pasture?Everything you like to deal with!

- Or have always wanted to keep busy: Musical instruments (if it's not a piano), sports equipment (some are also available in mountain huts), handicrafts (don't forget the instructions), crafts (DIY set?), maybe even books? By the way: New studies have shown that books are on the rise again (because they are so nice to touch). For you, this could mean lying on an alpine meadow, putting up an umbrella as a sunshade and reading the book that has been waiting on the bedside table at home for ages.

While we're on the subject of things to take with you to the mountain hut - there's nothing to stop you packing everything - with the exception of your loved ones of course - in one (or more suitcases), I've seen everything from wardrobe suitcases to board cases in mountain huts. However, real mountain people prefer proper rucksacks. Why? Practically speaking, you can also use them for hiking. And according to statistics, this is the favorite activity for alpine hut holidaymakers.

Where is the best place to start? All well and good, but ...

Now that you've thought about everything you want to take with you to your alpine hut, you'll realize that it's quite a lot. So what? You don't have to carry anything, at least not more than on any other vacation. But you'll notice one thing pretty soon: The anticipation will grow when you pack your bikini as well as your thick sweater, because that's what you get on an alpine hut vacation - pure sunshine on the alpine meadow!
