In the beginning, there was a house on the agricultural estate in Zedlitzdorf that was getting on in years and looking for a new purpose. And there were friends and neighbors who smiled at Christian Niederbichler when he talked about his ambitious project. Today, visitors and guests can't help but be amazed when they see the cozy romantic chalet from the outside and inside. And when the landlord, with shining eyes and visible pride, recalls the story of its creation.

Shared passion

"You're interested in what you like doing anyway," says the 30-year-old, recounting the beginnings of the project and the countless day and night shifts that followed, which he spent planning and implementing practically single-handedly over a total of three years. Wood in all its facets has fascinated the trained carpenter since he was a child. "Leave the Buam daham", his mother always asked her husband, and the almost daily excursions with his father Wolfgang (62) are still formative for Christian today. The senior showed the boy everything about his daily work and the junior started making little garden huts, birdhouses and bread boxes at an early age. This is how the passion for wood as a material passed from father to son. And mastery in the truest sense of the word, as documented by countless medal ranks and championship titles in lumberjack competitions. For the graduate of the Litzlhof agricultural college and trained forestry worker, it has long been a profession and vocation in all its facets.

"I kept hearing from my mom: 'Leave the boy behind!' But the almost daily excursions with my dad left a lasting impression on me that still lasts today."

Everything from a single source

"Wood is my passion," says Christian. The Romantik Chalet is living proof of this passion. For the timeless modernity of this raw material and the limitless possibilities of combining old with new. For his project, he was always on the lookout for old and weathered wood in the neighborhood and then refined it in different ways for the Romantik-Chalet. Not only that: the masterpiece is also an impressive in-house production that bears his signature, with the exception of the installations and the exterior plaster. "You have to learn what you can't do," he says and has become a general contractor in his own right. Whether electrician, welder, carpenter or joiner - ask Christian Niederbichler. Whether it's the kitchen front made from reclaimed wood or the wooden doors he made himself - every workpiece has become a part of his life.

"Snuggle up"

The chalet, affectionately referred to as the "Kuschelkeusche" in the application, offers a beautiful eat-in kitchen, cozy dining area and a living room with pull-out couch on the first floor. In total, the cozy guest retreat has three modern bedrooms with Swiss stone pine beds from Christian's own carpentry, two bathrooms and two toilets. A large sunny garden with terrace and a carport for two cars are also part of the feel-good factor in this year-round destination. Whether hiking, skiing or cross-country skiing - in the Romantikchalet you are always in good hands 365 days a year for excursions in the nearby Carinthian Nockberge mountains.
