It is a time when you free yourself from professional or personal obligations to gather new experiences, enjoy nature, or simply savour life.

Thurnhof lies in a open sunny location in the Flachau valley. Especially children love the freedom afforded by the fields and meadows that stretch out from our very doorstep.

Our 13th century farm was renovated and extended several years ago, to offer our summer guests a modern and comfortable place to spend their holidays.

The secluded location allows our little guests to run about and play on the farm, away from the dangers of traffic. Football goals, volleyball, a swing and trampoline invite our guests to romp about. Bikes for children, go-karts and a pedal tractor are popular means of transport around the farm.

A beautiful farmer's garden full of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers provide vital supplies for our traditional farm kitchen. Deck chairs, garden furniture, a barbecue and campfire area are great places to relax outside.

Our farm chapel is a peaceful and sunny, and a good place to unload your cares.

The barns and cowsheds have room for about 130 Pinzgau cows. This old, rare breed can be found in the mountain clearings of Pinzgau and Pongau. In summer, our cows are free to roam the alpine pasture and the wonderful mountain meadows. Pony Fipsi, dwarf mother goat and her kids, a couple of rabbits and 10 busy hens give great pleasure to our guests. Our little guests, in particular, enjoy taking care of the small animals at Thurhof.

In Summer we make butter and cheese on our alp

Dairy farming was the traditional method of farming in former times when farms were self-sufficient. The beautiful and noble Pinzgau cow is an old, robust and long living breed of cattle. Their gentle nature makes working with these animals a joy. The new born calves are first kept in calf igloos, then join their playmates in the "calf kindergarten". They spend the summer on the alpine pasture.

Goats, Ponies Fipsi and Bella, cats, rabbits and hens all romp about the farmyard.

Our newest arrivals are a couple of ducks, who busily help me take care of the garden.

*You can also arrive by train - the nearest stations are Radstadt in Pongau or Altenmarkt in Pongau. There is a good postal bus service from the station direct to our road (250m from Thurnhof.)

*by plane from Salzburg airport - then by rental car, or a taxi from Flachau will bring you to Thurnhof. Taxi transfer is not included in our prices.
