About Us
The 17th-century cabin was lovingly renovated in the fall of 2015. This self-catered cabin retains all the charm of the past while providing modern comforts. The "Sonnseit-Hütte" can be rented from May through October. The cabin sleeps 2 to 5 people. The heart of the cabin is the family room, with traditional rustic furnishings and a beautiful view of the sunset. A small wood-burning stove provides cozy warmth in the evenings, including during unexpected wintery nights. This can happen even in the summer at this elevation! A photovoltaic system provides electricity in order to make your stay in the mountains as comfortable as possible. The cabin is furnished with electric lights, a refrigerator, etc. along with hot running water. A large patio with a view of the awe-inspiring panorama of the mountains surrounding the Grossarl Valley is an inviting place to relax in the sun while the small arbor in front of the cabin offers a shady spot on hot summer days. Relax outside in the evenings over the wood-burning grill. You may even catch a glimpse of our local marmots! The only sound at night is the quiet ringing of the cowbells
as the mother cows graze with their calves.
The cozy Sonnseit-Hütte is located at 1450 m above sea level and overlooks the entrance to the Grossarl Valley. The cabin is easily accessed by vehicle from a forest road. Parking is available directly in front of the cabin. The village of Grossarl is only a 20-minute drive away. The "Geisterberg" playground is in St. Johann-Alpendorf, a 60-minute walk away while the nature and mountain amusement park "WAGRAINi's Grafenberg" can be reached with an 80-minute hike. Our working Alm, the Maurachalm, is an hour hike away. Once you arrive there, you can spoil yourself with homemade products from our farm. You are also welcome to purchase any number of delicious items from our Alm to take home with you. Hiking trails which are easily accessed from the cabin include the Unterwandalm, Karseggalm, Breitenebenalm, Sonntagskogel, Kitzstein and many others.

Take in the scent of wild flowers, enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view in the Hohe Tauern National Park and stop by one of the mountain cabins after hiking. Indulge in culinary delights such as home-made butter, cheese and freshly baked bread from the wood-fired oven. And in winter? Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, tobogganing or skiing are only a few of the outdoor activities. What else do you need for a great winter holiday?
