Highlights
About Us
In the heart of nature. Deeply rooted. Cordially managed.
About us & our location
Our organic farm Grubbauer is nestled in an idyllic spot in Upper Austria, close to Lower Austria and Styria, surrounded by meadows, forests, and mountains – embedded in the tranquil landscape of the Kalkalpen National Park Region.
The farm has been managed by our family for generations. In 1987, Hermann took over the business and has been developing it step by step ever since. Today, everything revolves around our approximately 220 Lacaune sheep, whose organic milk is processed into fine cheese at the Schlierbach Cheese Dairy.
Hermann takes care of the farming – Elke is the organizational talent behind the scenes. Son Florian contributes with great dedication.
Campsite Sebaldus – natural & personal
Our small, family-run campsite „Sebaldus“ is located directly on the Sebaldus cycling and hiking pilgrim trails – ideal for those seeking tranquility, nature enthusiasts, and spiritual travelers.
What awaits you here:
- 32 spacious pitches (70–140 m² each), divided into four lovingly named quarters:
Regions quarter, Feeding quarter, Excursion quarter, and Pilgrim quarter - Each pitch bears its own name with a local reference – e.g., „Stubauer-Platz“ or „Almkogel-Platz“ – along with information and a QR code about its history.
- 15 tent pitches with a wonderful view of the greenery
- Electricity connection at each pitch, billed according to consumption
- Sanitary container with showers, washbasins & WC – included
- Washing trough, coin-operated washing machine & dryer
- Chemical disposal station for motorhomes

If you have any questions, just talk to us – we're happy to help!
We look forward to welcoming you – here at Grubbauerhof.
Organic Sheep's Milk with Origin & Heart
At the heart of our farm is organic sheep's milk production with around 220 Lacaune sheep. The animals live in a species-appropriate way, with plenty of space and the best feed. Their milk is regularly collected by the renowned Schlierbach Dairy and processed there into high-quality cheese specialties – entirely without artificial additives.
Would you like to know how milk becomes cheese? We'd be happy to tell you more at the farm about the journey from the barn to the cheese storage – transparent farming you can experience firsthand.
Directly from the Farm – Honest & Regional
In our small supply refrigerator directly at the campsite, you'll find a fine selection of farm products – ideal for your breakfast, a picnic, or a snack in between.
What awaits you in the self-service refrigerator:
- Eggs from our happy hens
- Cheese from our sheep's milk (via Schlierbach Dairy)
- Regional products depending on the season (e.g., honey, fruit juices, spreads)
Tip: Our products are limited – it's best to grab them right upon arrival!
Fresh Pastries in the Morning – Hirtenlehner Bakery
The bakery service delivers oven-fresh pastries directly to your pitch daily (by prior order).
The small, exquisite bakery is located right behind the shop – here, baking starts daily at 2:30 AM, so you can enjoy fresh rolls for breakfast.
Shopping & Enjoyment in Gaflenz and the Surrounding Area
- LENZ Nah & Frisch + Café
Austria's first hybrid market – shopping also possible outside opening hours.
With a focus on regional & seasonal products. In the connected café: delicious breakfast, pastries, and good coffee. - Hoamatgfü – Delights from the Region
A lovingly run shop with handpicked products from the area. Small, exquisite & authentic – perfect for souvenirs or a special snack.
Inns & Wine Taverns in the Surrounding Area
- Gasthof Stubauer-Lehner (Gaflenz)
Family-run, down-to-earth, cozy – with a guest garden, children's menus, and dietary cuisine. Also ideal for groups or celebrations. - Weyrer Almstub’n – Wine Tavern
A regional classic: "Brettljause" (savory platter), cheese, pastries, cider, and wine.
Tip: Order your snack, pick it up & enjoy it at the campsite! - Jutta's Cozy Inn
Small, charming, heartfelt – a place to relax, enjoy, and gather. Here, cooking is done with great care for regional ingredients. - More Eateries in Weyer
From traditional inn cuisine to modern cafés – Weyer's culinary scene is diverse and worth a visit!
Our Tip for Connoisseurs: Ask us for recommendations – we're happy to share our personal favorite spots!
Regionality & Sustainability at all Levels
Whether during purchasing or processing: We pay attention to short distances, natural ingredients, and fair cooperation with local partners. Our guests feel: Everything here is authentic – from the egg to the cheese.
Experience animals up close
Here at Grubbauerhof, it's not just peaceful and close to nature – a colourful host of animals also lives here, making our farm lively and bringing a smile to the faces of young and old alike.
Our Sheep – the main characters
Our approximately 220 Lacaune sheep are the heart of the farm. Their fine organic milk is the basis for delicious sheep's cheese – but anyone who has seen them leisurely graze the meadow or bask in the sun will quickly realise: these animals are more than just farm animals – they are true personalities.
Want to learn more? We'd be happy to tell you how we work, what the sheep need, and how milk turns into cheese. Perhaps you'll even catch a glimpse of a newborn lamb – with a bit of luck at the right time.
Our Chickens – Eggs with origin
Right next to the campsite live our chickens, who provide fresh organic eggs daily. Children (and adults!) are welcome to watch them being fed – and if you're very careful, you might even discover a warm egg in the nest.
Observe, marvel, find peace
At our farm, there are no petting zoo animals – but animals that live and work with us. And that's exactly what makes it so appealing:
Experience real farm life, without a schedule, but with open eyes and an open heart.
Listen to the sheep bleating in the morning
Watch the chickens scratching
The animals amidst nature – no fence, no noise, no hustle and bustle
Do you want to know how the animals are kept or what their daily life looks like? Just ask us – we'll gladly take the time to answer your questions.

Sustainable holidays – with heart and common sense
For us, sustainability is not a buzzword, but a lived reality – both in agriculture and at the campsite. We rely on natural materials, short supply chains, and a conscious use of resources. This creates a holiday destination that is in harmony with nature – authentic, honest, and future-proof.
Our measures at a glance
No soil sealing
Driveways and pitches were deliberately gravelled and greened. This keeps the soil permeable to water and alive.
Natural construction
Seating, signage, and fences are made of wood and natural materials from the region.
Spring water from our own land
Our water comes from a natural spring just a few hundred meters from the site – clean, fresh, and untreated.
Heat from our own forest
Harvested from our own forest: The heating system is powered by regional wood chips – sustainable and climate-friendly.
Biological plant-based wastewater treatment system
Wastewater is treated without chemicals using a plant-based treatment system – gentle and reliable.
Clear waste separation
Well-marked collection points are available on site to ensure easy recycling.
Regional products instead of packaging waste
In our supply fridge, you'll find seasonal produce from our farm and surrounding businesses – fresh, high-quality, and without unnecessary packaging.
We believe: those who manage consciously can also enjoy consciously.
And that is exactly what we want to enable for you during your stay.
