About Us
Peace, Nature & Authenticity - a warm welcome to the Laußnitz Alm
Our guest cabin on the Laußnitz Alm is situated in a dreamlike location at 1,836 meters above sea level - far away from everyday life, hustle & bustle - the best choice for your retreat. In about 20 minutes you can reach the Laußnitz Lake at 2,000 meters, where our herd of suckler cows spends the high summer.
The traditionally built alpine cabin has two floors. On the ground floor, there is an entrance hall including cabin slippers, a large common room with two dining tables and a fireplace, which provides cozy warmth on cool summer evenings and in autumn. The kitchen is fully equipped, and adjacent is a water-cooled room for drinks and food. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor, directly into the dormitory for 9 people (5 single beds, one double bed, and a pull-out sofa bed). A bathroom with a shower & toilet is also located there.
In the spacious outdoor area, you can expect a panoramic terrace with seating, a kettle grill, two swings, a sandbox with toys, a campfire site, a stream with a water feature, and a well.
We warmly welcome you to our alpine cabin from mid-June to October. We start the winter season from the end of December to the end of February. Due to its location, our alpine cabin is suitable in WINTER exclusively for experienced winter sports enthusiasts and alpinists looking for peace and seclusion. The cabin can be reached with snowshoes and touring skis. On the day of arrival and departure, we offer luggage transport (surcharge).

Highlights
About Us
The Laussnitz Alm is beautifully situated at the western end of the Nockberge mountains at 1,836 meters above sea level and is accessible in WINTER exclusively by snowshoes or touring skis. This makes our idyllically located alpine cabin ideal for winter sports enthusiasts seeking peace and seclusion. The cabin features running water, including hot water (bath stove), a wood stove in the kitchen, and a fireplace in the parlor. Cozy hours await you by the crackling fireplace, far away from the hustle and bustle of the slopes.
The nearest parking option is located about an hour's walk (walking time on touring skis or snowshoes) from the cabin. On the day of arrival and departure, we offer luggage transport for an additional fee.
You are welcome to order a snack basket filled with our own farm-made products, which we will bring up along with your luggage.
Important: the cabin is not located in or near a ski resort. We are not a destination for the "classic" winter sports enthusiast. Anyone wishing to spend their winter holiday at the Laussnitz Alm is looking for seclusion and is familiar with the prevailing weather conditions. All travelers must be aware of the extraordinary conditions that come with an altitude of 1,836m and should be experienced ski tourers or snowshoers.
We spoil you with our homemade products, crafted in small but exquisite batches. For instance, we make our own sausages and cold cuts from our free-range pigs and pasture-fed cattle, including farmer's salami, Carinthian house sausages, cooked sausages, and bacon. Before and after the alpine pasture season, when the cows graze the pastures around our mountain farm, we milk them for a short period and use it to make butter, curd cheese, and some cheese. All of this forms the basis for our homemade regional delicacies, such as Carinthian pasta specialties, bacon dumplings, roasts, and much more.
We would be happy to send you a list of our farm & homemade products prior to your arrival; your order will then be waiting for you in the kitchen on the day of your arrival.
Our farm products are perfect for preparing a classic alpine snack; all dishes for the stove are easy to prepare, making them ideal for the wood-burning stove in our alpine cabin.
With us, the cattle drive up to the mountain pasture is still done the traditional way, meaning we bring our herd of suckler cows to the alpine pasture on foot, usually around the second week of June when the pasture has plenty of feed. In addition, horses and goats also enrich our alpine pasture. Sometimes the animals are very close to the cabin, so you can watch them directly from the window right after waking up, as they either doze or graze across the pasture. A truly wonderful peace emanates from animals that are allowed to live undisturbed in their natural environment. The kind of peace that can only really be experienced high up on an alpine pasture.

"There is no Planet B" may be a bit cliché by now, but the message is more urgent than ever. Meeting our guests after their holiday at the Laussnitz Alm is always wonderful. At its core, it is slowness and simplicity that bring peace to the mind and heart, and the little things that fill the soul with joy. Be it the vibrant colors of spring and autumn.
Protecting this pristine environment has become second nature to us. At our mountain pasture, we generate electricity from the sun, and heating & hot water from wood. For cleaning the lodge & laundry, we rely on ecological detergents and cleaning products that are fully biodegradable and free of microplastics.

The access road to our alpine pasture, which also passes by our mountain farm, is located just 500m after the exit from the A10 (Tauern motorway). You leave the A10 at Rennweg am Katschberg and continue towards Rennweg. After about 500 meters, turn left towards Frankenberg; from here, the farm and alpine hut (Laußnitzer Hütte) are signposted. Drive through the underpass and then follow the road all the way up to the right, then keep right until the road turns into a forest road at the last house on the right-hand side. Follow this for 3km until the path forks; this is the last parking lot. You can park on the left side of the road. From here, you can continue to the Laussnitz Alm either by shuttle service or on foot.
For our winter guests, luggage service to the pasture is included. All travelers should be experienced winter sports enthusiasts, as our alpine pasture can only be reached with snowshoes or touring skis.
