About Us
Our farm is situated in an absolutely quiet, secluded location, completely free of through traffic – ideal for hikers, families, and those seeking peace and quiet. The agricultural operation was first documented as early as 1448. For many generations, agriculture was the main source of income. Since 1998, we have been processing our products ourselves again and offering them in our farm shop – from cheese to bacon, all honest and regional.
In 2022, we transitioned to organic farming. All specialties are produced strictly according to the guidelines of Bio Austria. Even feed production is carried out without chemical fertilizers and pesticides – doing without them is our top priority. We also ensure our animals have plenty of space to roam – in both summer and winter.
We keep sheep for milk and meat production, pigs for bacon and sausage production, as well as chickens and ducks, which round off our offerings.
For the production of apple juice and cider, we cultivate an orchard in the Glan Valley in addition to our own farm fruit trees. The grain for our farmhouse bread grows on a field near Villach.
With a lot of heart, we also run the Wurzelpark Arriach – a nature playground with over 30,000 m² of space directly by the farm. Our holiday guests enjoy free admission there. In the immediate vicinity, you will find a 3D archery course (https://www.bsc-mittelerde-arriach.at/), the Buschenschank (tavern), and the farm shop. If you don't feel like cooking, you can enjoy regional delicacies at the Buschenschank.
In winter, you benefit from the proximity to the Gerlitzen Klösterle valley station – only about 400 m away. A ski school, ski rental, and lessons are available right on site. If there is enough snow, you can even ski right to your doorstep. Access to the slope is also possible on foot through a small patch of forest. Upon request and depending on snow conditions, we can also take you to the slope by skidoo (for a small fee).
Our two comfortably furnished holiday apartments are attached directly to the stable building – you will live right in the middle of real farm life, with sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, and two child-friendly Border Collies.
👉 Each apartment features its own infrared cabin – ideal for relaxing after an active day.
Note: Since the apartments are located right next to the stable, there may be light noises during stable and milking times – many guests find this particularly charming.
Swimming lakes, thermal baths, and towns such as Villach or Feldkirchen can be reached in under 30 minutes by car. Hiking trails start directly from the farm – perfect for relaxation, enjoying nature, and unforgettable experiences for all ages.

About Us
Winter sports are deeply rooted in our region and are a part of everyday life for many locals. Whether it's leisurely sledding, snowshoeing through deeply snow-covered forests, extensive cross-country skiing tours, or action-packed fun on the slopes – winter sports enthusiasts will find a true paradise here.
The direct connection to the Klösterle run on the Gerlitzen Alpe is particularly attractive: when there is sufficient natural snow, it is possible to ski right down to our holiday apartment accommodation – without even having to take off your skis. Our farm is located just about 400 meters from the slope.
In the immediate vicinity of the valley station of the Gerlitzen Alpe ski area, you will also find a ski school and a ski rental shop. Ski passes can be purchased directly on-site at the valley station.
Even when natural snow is sparse, skiing fun is guaranteed: thanks to a modern and well-developed snowmaking system, the Gerlitzen ski area is consistently presented in top condition.
Farm products and catering
From our organic primary production, we craft fine specialties with great craftsmanship and regional connection, which you can enjoy and purchase directly at our farm:

Sheep's milk products:
In our small farm dairy, we process fresh sheep's milk into fine rennet cheese – available plain or refined with selected herbs. We also produce creamy Cervais, also with or without added herbs. Hard cheese made from sheep's milk is also matured on the farm in small quantities. -
Glundner cheese:
For this typical Carinthian cheese, we source the best cow's milk from our neighboring organic farmer, known as Ölz in Hinterwinkel – entirely in the spirit of regional cooperation. -
Farmhouse bread:
Our wood-fired bread is baked according to old farming traditions – in the farm's own wood-fired oven. The result: an especially wholesome, crispy bread with a unique taste. -
Meat specialties:
In our on-farm processing, we create various bacon variations: from tender Kareespeck (cured pork loin) to belly bacon and noble ham bacon. In addition, we produce raw sausages and house sausages ourselves according to traditional recipes. -
Fresh eggs:
Our free-range chickens provide a small but fine quantity of fresh eggs – an honest product with plenty of flavor.
All our specialties are not only available in the farm shop, but can also be tasted during the summer months in our Buschenschank (traditional tavern) – where regionality, taste, and hospitality come together.
Animals
Animal husbandry has always been an essential part of farming life at the Steinacherhof – to this day, it forms the foundation of our daily routine and our work. Over many generations, animals were not only providers of food, but also loyal companions and part of our farming culture.
As part of the comprehensive barn construction from 2023 to 2025, we decided to specialize in sheep farming. Today, around 65 sheep live on our farm – 22 dairy sheep of which are milked daily. The sheep's milk obtained forms the basis for our farm's own cheese specialties. Our guests can experience the animals up close, watch them being milked, or simply observe the peaceful coexistence in the herd – a real experience, especially for children.
In addition to the sheep, many other animals live at the Steinacherhof, providing a typical farm atmosphere:

Chickens, which roam freely and provide fresh eggs daily

Ducks, which love to waddle comfortably around the farm yard and provide cheerful quacking

And our two Border Collies, which are not only hard-working helpers when herding the sheep, but are also particularly lovable and child-friendly – they always look forward to being petted!

Entire Holiday Home Steinacherhof – ideal for families & groups
Our holiday home consists of two spacious apartments (“Hofblick“ & “Mirnockblick“) and offers plenty of space, comfort, and flexibility. In total, the following rooms are at your disposal:

Of which 4 bedrooms are intended for adults/couples and 1 children's room with bunk beds for up to 2 children (up to 12 years old).
👉 Extended occupancy:
With full use of the sofa beds, up to 14 people can be accommodated. Since the sofa beds are slightly smaller than a standard double bed, this option is best suited for children or teenagers.
An occupancy of 12 adults + 2 children is therefore only possible in exceptional cases and must be requested in advance by telephone. A small surcharge may be applied for over-occupancy.
