Ferienhaus Strohschneider – Steinwender Family

Preserving the old. Enriching it with the new. Leaving our own footprints. And sharing this place, which is so much more than a home, with others. Welcome! At the Steinwender family farm, all of this is a matter of course. Here, rural tradition and the future lovingly join hands. 

You can see this as soon as you enter this wonderful estate, which is nestled between meadows, fruit trees, forest and mountains, right in the middle of the beautiful, unspoilt Gitschtal valley. The Strohschneider holiday home is newly built to the highest ecological standards. Two identical residential units, each with around 85 square metres, can be booked, in which we have brought nature into the house thanks to the timber frame construction. The building material wood immediately conveys this cosy feeling of security. You can enjoy it in summer and winter due to the pleasant temperature and humidity. And you can smell it, because the incomparable scent of wood automatically makes you wind down and relax.  

In the immediate vicinity, however, to be honest, time for relaxing is precious. Here on our 300-year-old farm, life is colourful and varied. Sonja and Christian Steinwender run the farm together and their three children Max, Leo and Ilvy are already busy helping out. After all, besides the 30 dairy cows, calves and young animals – which can either move around on the pasture or lie down to sleep in the heavily straw-bedded areas in the stable – our cats Minzi and Elsa and our chickens also have to be looked after every day. 

However, our young animals and some cows go on summer retreat from June. Then they are allowed to go to our own alpine pasture, the Guggenberg, a natural jewel of the Gail Valley. But don't worry: fresh milk and a breakfast egg are always available on our farm. Our approx. 10 chickens make sure of that, under the strict supervision of their rooster!

- it is approx. a 1-minute walk to the bus stop 

- to the small town of Hermagor approx. a 10-minute walk, 

- to Lake Pressegger See and the Nassfeld ski arena approx. 8 km

- to the beautiful Lake Weissensee approx. a 15-minute drive

- cross-country ski trail and toboggan run in the immediate vicinity

- small hikes and much more, right on the doorstep

This was just a small insight into our family, our farm, what we do and who we are.
