About Us

Welcome to Bauernhaus anno 1679 at Ferienbauernhof Elmaugut!

At an altitude of 1,200 metres, at the foot of the impressive Hochkönig massif in the Salzburg region, you will find our family-run organic mountain farm, Elmaugut. For generations, we have been running our farm with great dedication, passion and a deep connection to nature. Here, traditional farming, warm hospitality and the breathtaking mountain landscape of the Hochkönig come together.

🐶🐮🐴
At Elmaugut, life with animals is simply part of everyday life. Our two farm dogs, Dana and Fips, are among the first to warmly welcome our guests. Get to know our animals, watch the daily work on the farm or lend a hand with some small tasks in the stable. There is especially plenty for children to discover: Noriker horses, Normande cattle, calves, goats, sheep, ponies, cats, rabbits, pigs, peacocks and chickens are all part of our large animal family. In summer, most of our animals spend their days on the lush meadows surrounding the farm.

Our historic farmhouse dating back to 1679 is part of the Elmaugut holiday farm, while at the same time offering you the opportunity to enjoy your holiday in complete privacy. The historic house is a self-contained accommodation unit for exclusive use and combines the unique atmosphere of an authentic farmhouse with plenty of privacy and personal space – while still being part of Elmaugut and its lively farm life.

In summer, hiking trails and cycling routes lead directly from Elmaugut into the impressive Hochkönig mountains. Whether you are looking for a leisurely walk, a family hike, a scenic mountain tour or an exciting day trip, the region offers countless opportunities for active adventures and relaxing days in nature.

As a HochkönigCard partner, our guests can enjoy numerous complimentary services and attractive discounts throughout the region. With the Salzburg Transport Guest Mobility Ticket, you can also use public transport throughout the entire Salzburg region free of charge during your stay. In summer, the hiking bus stops directly in front of our doorstep, taking you conveniently and sustainably to numerous trailheads and excursion destinations.

In winter, Elmaugut is the ideal starting point for skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. Depending on snow conditions, a connecting route leads directly from the farm to the family run of the Mühlbach am Hochkönig ski area – with a little pushing required at times.

A very special winter experience is a horse-drawn sleigh ride with Anton Höllwart Sr. and our own home-bred Noriker horses. Wrapped up warmly, you can travel through the snowy winter landscape around Mühlbach – a wonderful experience for young and old alike.

Whether you are planning a family holiday or a getaway with friends, at Elmaugut you can enjoy peace and tranquillity, nature and authentic farm life in every season.

The Höllwart family looks forward to welcoming you to our historic farmhouse dating back to 1679!

Farm products and catering

For a delicious start to the day, we offer our bread & pastry service.
Fresh bread and pastries from a local bakery are delivered to us daily.

Also available: fresh milk and homemade jams. Depending on availability, we also offer eggs from our chickens and seasonal farm-fresh specialties such as hand-churned butter. Homemade farmhouse bread and creamy yogurt are available on request.

And, with a little luck, there may even be some of our homemade smoked bacon left.

Animals

At Elmaugut, living with animals is simply part of everyday life and an important part of our farm.

Our two farm dogs, Dana and Fips, are among the first to warmly welcome our guests.

In summer, most of our animals spend their days on the meadows surrounding the farm. Our Normande dairy cows come into the barn twice a day for milking. Our Noriker horses, ponies, young cattle and calves, as well as many goats and sheep, also spend the warmer months outdoors around the farm. A special member of our animal family is our Noriker stallion, Zukunft Schaunitz XVIII.

Right at the farm, you will also find our cats, rabbits, pigs, peacocks and chickens, who are always happy to meet curious visitors and receive the occasional stroke.

In winter, our animals spend most of their time in the cosy barn. This is when there is plenty to do: feeding, caring for and looking after the animals are all part of our daily farm life.

Every afternoon at 4:00 pm, it’s time to head to the barn, where we feed and care for the animals and milk the cows. Guests are very welcome to join us and get a genuine insight into everyday life on a working farm. Our younger guests can even help with feeding the rabbits and cats or collecting fresh eggs.

Whether watching the animals in the meadows, petting our cats or helping out in the barn – our animal family is an important part of life at Elmaugut and makes a farm holiday a truly special experience for the whole family.

Reviews
Sustainability

Since 1993, Elmaugut has been organically farmed. As an organic farm, we follow strict guidelines and undergo regular annual inspections. We are also Naturland certified. For us, organic farming is about more than simply meeting requirements – it means treating our animals, soil and nature with care and responsibility.

We manage the meadows surrounding our farm ourselves and produce a large part of our own animal feed. This keeps natural cycles close to the farm and allows us to know exactly where our animals’ feed comes from.

Our milk and meat production is also part of this natural cycle. Our animals provide valuable food, while the manure they produce is returned to our meadows as natural fertiliser.

We also make use of the resources our home provides for our energy supply. In the forests surrounding Elmaugut, we manage our own woodland and harvest the wood used to heat the farm and produce hot water. In this way, we make use of a local and renewable resource directly from our own farm.

For us, sustainability is not a trend, but a living part of our farming tradition – taking responsibility for our animals, our nature and future generations.

Arrival

Check-in
Your room will be ready for you from 4:00 pm on the day of arrival.
Early check-in is only possible in exceptional cases and by prior arrangement. It can only be guaranteed if your room is already ready for occupancy.
If you are arriving after 7:00 pm, please let us know in advance.

Check-out
On the day of departure, the booked accommodation must be vacated by 9:30 am.

Normally you will be welcomed personally on site so that everything can be shown and explained to you. If you arrive late, we will be happy to leave the key for you and provide you with important information in advance.

By Bus & Train
Start your holiday in a relaxed way by taking the train! The nearest railway station is Bischofshofen, from where you can conveniently take the local hiking bus directly to Elmaugut. Train connections and tickets can be booked at www.oebb.at or by calling 051717.

By Car
From Munich or Salzburg:
Take the A10 Tauern Motorway towards Villach and exit at Bischofshofen. Follow the B164 towards Mühlbach am Hochkönig. Continue along the main road. At the end of the village, you will find the Karbachalm cable car station on the left and the Gasthof Lederer on the right. From there, it is approximately another 2 km to our house, which is located on the right-hand side of the road.

Toll-free route:
Take the A8 from Munich towards Salzburg and exit at Traunstein/Siegsdorf. Continue via the B306, B305 and B311 to Saalfelden.

Alternatively, travel via Rosenheim, Kufstein Süd, St. Johann/Tirol and Saalfelden.

Our house is located approximately 3 km after the Dientner Sattel mountain pass, on the left-hand side. This route does not require an Austrian motorway vignette.

In winter, we recommend carrying snow chains and appropriate winter equipment.

By Plane
The nearest airports are Salzburg and Munich. There are daily nonstop flights from Hamburg to Salzburg, from where the Hochkönig region can be reached in approximately one hour by car or train.
