Many of our products such as eggs, meat, bread, and liqueurs come directly from our farm and represent true local taste from the Salzburg Lungau region.

About Us

The Davidalm is located at 1,300 meters above sea level in Ramingstein in Salzburger Lungau, right in the heart of Salzburger Land. The alpine hut is in a quiet, secluded location on the mountain, surrounded by meadows, alpine pastures, and magnificent nature. The center of Ramingstein can be reached on foot in about 2.5 hours, while the well-known towns of Tamsweg and Murau are easily accessible by car and offer additional excursion and shopping opportunities.

🛖 Alpine Holiday like in the Old Days

Our hut in Unterlungau is not a modern luxury accommodation, but rather perfect for those who want to experience an alpine holiday like in the old days – without much frills and with a lot of authenticity. Electricity and light are supplied by a battery-powered solar cell. There is only one power socket, which can only be used during daylight hours. A traditional refrigerator is not available – instead, food is stored in buckets in the cool spring trough.

The outhouse (pit toilet) and an indoor washing area are part of the rustic hut character. Smoking is forbidden in the hut and dogs are not allowed. The Davidalm is a typical summer hut and is rented from June to October.

Important: Direct access to the hut with your own car is unfortunately not possible – we will gladly take you up.

🐑 Farm Experience & Animals

On the alpine pasture, you'll experience daily farm life up close. The pastures are home to Scottish Blackface ewes with their lambs, Lacaune dairy sheep, free-range Turopolje pigs, and laying hens. Piglets, roosters, and the two diligent Border Collies are also part of daily farm life. Depending on the season, cows are also on the alpine pasture. You are welcome to help with farm work or enjoy a tractor ride.

Children are warmly welcome. Due to the secluded location on the alpine pasture, we especially recommend a stay for children aged 4 years and older, as it is not possible to leave the alpine pasture independently. Plenty of space, nature, and animals make the surroundings the most beautiful playground.

🧀 Enjoy Farm Products

The farm's own products are particularly popular: free-range eggs, farm bread, snack sausages, lamb and pork meat packages, cheese dumplings (Kaspressknödel) and liver dumplings (Leberknödel) upon request, liqueurs, handmade soaps, lambskins, and much more can be enjoyed or purchased directly from the farm.

🌞 Summer & Excursions in the Surroundings

Directly from the hut, beautiful hikes start to the Klementikapelle (approx. 30 minutes), to Finstergrün Castle (approx. 2 hours), or to Gstoßelacke (approx. 2 hours). Below Finstergrün Castle, you will also find a small Spar supermarket, which can be reached on foot in about 2.5 hours.

✨ Switch off and feel nature - The Davidalm is the perfect place for all who seek peace, nature, and authentic farm life in Salzburger Land. Here you will spend a special alpine holiday with much freedom, genuine experiences, and memories that will last a long time.

Farm products and catering

At Davidalm, you can enjoy many farm-fresh products directly from Salzburger Lungau. Our free-range eggs, fresh farmhouse bread, and spicy snack sausages are particularly popular. Upon request, we also offer fresh mixed meat packages of lamb and pork, Kaspressknödel, Leberknödel, Beuschel in a jar, and souse.

Additionally, we offer homemade specialties such as herbal liqueur, Swiss pine liqueur, and baked apple liqueur. Our handmade lanolin and pitch soaps, lambskins, and raw wool as fertilizer are also special products directly from the farm.

Highlight: Many products come directly from our animals and meadows – regionally produced, sustainable, and crafted with great care.

Animals

On Davidalm in Salzburger Lungau, many special animals live that embody true alpine life. Our Scottish Blackface ewes with their lambs are true Highlanders from Scotland. They are robust, weather-resistant, and perfectly suited for life in the higher altitudes of Lungau. Our Lacaune dairy sheep also belong to the farm and are an important part of daily farm life.

We are particularly proud of our Turopolje pigs, which are raised outdoors. This rare and ancient pig breed lives close to nature with plenty of outdoor space. In addition, our laying hens, piglets, and roosters ensure fresh eggs daily and a lively farm atmosphere.

A very special highlight are our two Border Collies. They are not only family dogs but also diligent working dogs that help us daily with the sheep – herding, sorting, and penning them. True to our motto: „A good sheepdog is worth its weight in gold.“

Depending on the season, cows also spend their summer on the alm. This way, guests at Davidalm experience authentic farm life surrounded by nature.

Explore the summits, alpine pastures and mountain cabins in the valleys Riedingtal and Weißpriachtal and in the Schladming Tauern. In the three family-friendly ski resorts, you can spend a great winter’s day outdoors. Learn how to grow and harvest potatoes. The famous “Eachtling”, as they are called here, are a local delicacy. Be part of traditional celebrations and events all year round. The sun is always keeping you company. There’s no other region in SalzburgerLand with as many hours of sunshine!
