Experiences

Experience a farm

Variety on a Small Scale

The rhythm of life here at the farm is set by nature. A lot of manual work, love for the animals and plants on the farm, and a respectful togetherness are our main focus. "Organic" is not just a quality seal, but rather a way of life: a careful treatment of nature's resources and of everyone living here on the farm is important. There are only a few machines, and anyone who wishes is warmly invited to pitch in with the various daily tasks on the farm: plenty of hands-on work in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park's nature.

Take a break

A place to feel good and recharge

Consciously breathe in the cool morning air, listen to the buzzing of bees in spring, deeply inhale the scent of hay in summer, feel the rustle of the wind in the colorful autumn leaves in a gentle breeze, or admire the gentle fall of the first snowflakes in winter: rediscover yourself in the midst of nature and enjoy with all your senses. A break from everyday life that lingers.

About Us

In the midst of nature, surrounded by forest, fields, and dry stone walls, lies the small farm known as "Schott". For more than 300 years, the farm has always been a small homestead, primarily serving self-sufficiency. Even now, "Biohof Schott" is one of the smallest farms in the valley. Since 2014, the farm has been certified as an organic business, placing great value on natural diversity on a small scale.

The holiday apartment is located in the wooden building newly constructed in 2021 above the stable, adjacent to the barn. The only neighbors are the stable dwellers, the animals all around in nature, and of course the Schott farm family, who lives in the old farmhouse opposite. Sleeping in gently scented stone pine beds, cozy gatherings in the spacious eat-in kitchen with a wood stove, looking out at the grazing sheep all around, or experiencing the sunset on the terrace: a holiday here brings peace and relaxation.

The farm is easily accessible, there is a covered parking space, and the nearby excursion destinations are ideal for a varied holiday. Nature invites you to take part in various activities, and whoever wishes is of course welcome to actively help out with the diverse tasks on the farm.

For those interested in the history of the farm and life on a mountain farm, or who would like to learn more about organic farming or permaculture: the "Schotthof" farmers love to chat! There is also the opportunity to book a workshop at the "School on the Farm" (interesting not just for children and teenagers!): here you can dive a little deeper into the world of bees, learn more about the old sheep breed "Krainer Steinschaf" and sheep wool processing, or simply embark intensively on the "Organic Farm Experience" and discover exciting facts about organic farming here on the farm.

The small but fine selection of organic delicacies from the "Schotthof" can be enjoyed during your holiday and, of course, taken home as souvenirs and mementos of your days at the "Schotthof". Farm-gate sales are of course possible for our guests at any time by arrangement!

Please note: smoking is prohibited on our farm, as is lighting fireworks.

Reviews
Sustainability

We look at the bigger picture... as a dedicated organic farm, this principle is reflected in many small details around the estate. Diversity is important to us: in the animal and plant world, but also in the surrounding natural habitats. Stone walls, old trees, decaying wood, untouched spots on our farm... they all make it possible for birds to enjoy nesting here and for many otherwise very rare animals to feel at home. Biodiversity can be found everywhere here.

Not only our own home, but also the holiday apartment is designed close to nature: Swiss stone pine beds, cotton and linen bedding, avoiding plastic especially in the kitchen, easy-to-clean and durable materials, clear waste separation, and the use of ecologically certified cleaning agents are a matter of course for us.

The water comes from our own private spring, which is of course regularly tested. Electricity is provided by the photovoltaic system on the roof, and any additional power needed is generated by hydropower from a small power station on the opposite side of the valley. Heating is available via infrared warmth, but there is also a small tiled stove in the kitchen-cum-living-room.

It is wonderful to discover and enjoy the diverse nature all around us – we are happy to support our guests in doing so and are delighted to offer the wide range of activities in the National Park at a highly reduced rate or even free of charge. It is also possible to use public transport (free of charge from November 2026 thanks to the restructuring of the local tourist tax).

Arrival

The easiest way is to use a navigation system - this should lead you reliably to your destination.

Some reference points for the journey:

- our farm is located on the western side of the valley in the municipality of Mörtschach

- after a long straight stretch of the main road, there is a small bridge with signage "Unter Stranach" that crosses the 'Möll' river. This is the correct bridge to Biohof Schott.

- however, if you are guided to a bridge next to a petrol station, please turn around at a suitable place and drive back to the smaller bridge in the direction of "Unter Stranach"

The guest parking lot is signposted - but of course, you are welcome to drive very close to the building to unload your luggage!
