Bergerhof

Even in the morning, the aroma of fresh farmhouse bread and regional delicacies fills the air, whetting your appetite for a delightful start to the day. Our breakfast buffet features homemade yoghurt made from our hay-fed milk, freshly milked milk from our cows, and many other specialities from the farm and the region. We source cheese, farm butter and various sausages from selected producers in East Tyrol who work with great care and a passion for their craft. Added to this are homemade jams, eggs from our hens, farmhouse bread made to an old family recipe, and fine spreads, enhanced with homemade wild herb salt gathered from the natural surroundings of the Bergerhof. This makes breakfast with us a truly special treat, allowing you to experience the diversity and flavours of our homeland in a unique way.

At the Bergerhof, holidays come alive for both children and adults when our animals become part of the day. From October to May, our animals are at home in the barn and, during this time, look forward to curious visitors, affectionate strokes and lots of lovely encounters. Equipped with a pair of wellies, you can experience real farm life up close and get particularly close to our calves.

During the summer months, things quieten down in the barn because our cows are up in the alpine pastures and life on the farm shifts more outdoors. Once a week, we therefore take our guests on an animal discovery tour, collecting eggs, visiting the calves in the pasture, feeding the pigs and rabbits, and giving the cats their milk – a farm moment that children particularly love.

Our organic farm, the Bergerhof in Kals am Großglockner, has always been owned by the Gratz family. We see it as our duty to manage the farm in such a way that many more generations will continue to benefit from it.

In agriculture, we value a healthy circular economy. We not only mow our fields in the valley but also our mountain meadows below Greibühel and our pastures on the alm in Dorfertal. In addition to the alm in Dorfertal, where our cows spend the summer, we also manage our high alm below Blauspitz.

We heat our entire farm exclusively with our wood chip heating system, which we installed in 2019. During the renovation of the guest area in 2015, we also carried out a thermal renovation with full thermal insulation. In 2024, we expanded our energy supply with a 20kW photovoltaic system. At the same time, an e-charging station for our guests was installed directly at the guest parking lot.

In the guest area, during the 2015 renovation, we placed particular emphasis on ensuring that the furniture came from local carpenters and that natural materials were used as much as possible. For several years now, we have provided our guests with a digital guest information folder. At our farm breakfast, you will primarily find homemade and regional delicacies at the buffet.

It is also very important to us that no food ends up in the trash. Therefore, we offer our guests the opportunity to feed leftover food to our animals themselves. Our pigs, cats, rabbits, and chickens are happy to get some too.
