Watch what the farmer is up to
Farm life awakens from its slumber when the cockerel crows. The first morning chores are in the stables, milking the cows, feeding the rabbits their delicious, juicy grass and fetching the breakfast eggs from the chicken coop. Harvesting hay in summer may cost you some sweat, but the ploughman’s lunch once the work is done will taste better for it: fresh bread, bacon, cheese, a nip of schnapps and much more besides. The farmer’s wife is also delighted if you help her out in the herb garden or kitchen, where juicy berries are made into marmalade and liqueurs are left to ripen. She might even tell you the recipe for her crispy farmer’s bread.
