Lake Achen – the Tirolean sea
Fancy riding a steamer to the Gaisalm? Azure or dark and stormy – Lake Achen is like a fjord, tucked away between the Rofan and Karwendel Mountains. Ten kilometres long and up to 133 metres deep, Tirol’s largest bathing lake – in drinking water quality – is located at an altitude of around 930 metres. Are you bold enough to hop into the refreshing waters after a hike to the Feilkopf? Not only is the holiday region of Lake Achen a paradise for families, hikers and runners, it has more than enough to offer nature enthusiasts, adventurers or the more leisurely-minded as well.
