The organic farm lies in a sunny and quiet location, 633 m above

The organic farm lies in a sunny and quiet location, 633 m above sea level, and has fantastic views of Kalkalpen National Park. The farm is a starting point for many beautiful snowshoe hikes. When there is enough snow, you can use the local marked cross-country ski run. You can borrow 4 pairs of snowshoes here free of charge. Should you need any more, you can hire them at the national park centre for a small fee. They also offer guided snowshoe hikes. Children can rollick about in the snow, go sledging or build a snowman, all to their heart's content. You can also borrow two sleighs from us.

A further highlight is Bavarian curling at Guesthouse Schraml "Steigerwirt" (former miner's lodge) in Pechgraben. If interested, please inform us when making your reservation, then we can enquire whether an alley is available there.

We offer a very low-priced ski trip package in cooperation with Forsteralm valley in Gaflenz. Please state your interest when making a request.

And the best way to finish the day is in the cosy farmhouse parlour. With regional specialities, most of which come from our own farm, and carefully designed deluxe rooms (7 double rooms and 1 single room), the well-being of our guests is our priority.

Bring your own laptop with you to take advantage of our complimentary wireless Internet access.

We are a member of the 'Nationalparkhöfen' (national park farms) association! Visit 1 farm - enjoy 10 times the adventure.

Stories

The history of our organic farm

In 1961, our farm was awarded the title of 'Erbhof', or family estate. We received this award because the farm had been in the same family for 200 years. The 'Erbhof' certificate is on display in the farmhouse parlour, where guests can also read the extensive annals of the farm throughout its history.

The first documented evidence of our farm was in 1313. By 1865 there had been 16 Gross-Rabenreiths in direct succession. This was the heyday of the mining industry in Pechgraben. All 6 sons went into mining and the youngest daughter inherited the farm. She married Vinzenz Einzenberger, the son of a woodcutter.

In the 100 years that followed, many new agricultural buildings and vaults were erected on the property which are still there today.

In 1967 my parents-in-law went on a 1-week trip to see organic pioneer Dr Mueller in Switzerland. One year later, they began to farm organically. The land had been previously very intensively farmed, and the transition brought with it initial losses. However the quality of the feed quickly improved and the farm's income rose once more.

Remodelling of the house was started in 1970, and in 1973 the 3 attic rooms were completed. Thus they were able to begin to rent out rooms. In 1982 the building was extended towards the garden and solar panels were installed.

In 2006 my husband and I took over the farm. We refurbished some of the rooms, so that we could continue to rent them out. Our children Katharina, Verena and Johannes were born in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

In 2008 we began to renovate the cowshed and stalls. We built a playpen for the young cattle. The 13 dairy cows are still attached and are milked with a pipe milking system. The calves also got new pens and an exercise area. The roof structure was also renewed in its entirety, and the roof was newly covered. We built a mobile pen for the chickens.

Directions

Grossraming is in the Upper Austrian Enns valley, 35 km from Steyr and 50 km from Amstetten.

Coming from the East (Vienna, Hungary), the best route is via the A1 motorway to Amstetten West, and then on to Waidhofen / Ybbs - Weyer - Grossraming. After coming to the end of Grossraming there is a bridge and then a roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit on the right, towards "Maria Neustift, Laussa". After approx. 1 km there is another bridge. There you will see the signpost to "Ferienhof Rabenreith". Turn left here and after approx. 250 m turn right onto the access road up to Rabenreith (also signposted "Ferienhof Rabenreith"). The road runs some 2.5 km steeply downhill. We are the third farm, with a fantastic panoramic view.

Coming from the direction of Germany, Salzburg and Linz, the motorway exit for Enns is the nearest to the farm. Then continue on to Steyr - Ternberg - Losenstein - Reichraming. From the end of Reichraming it is approx. 6 km to a sharp left bend. The roundabout comes after that. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit towards "Maria Neustift, Laussa". After approx. 1 km there is a bridge. There you will see the signpost to "Ferienhof Rabenreith". Turn left here and after approx. 250 m turn right onto the access road up to Rabenreith (also signposted "Ferienhof Rabenreith"). The road runs some 2 km steeply downhill. We are the third farm, with a fantastic panoramic view.

We are also well connected by train. There is a railway station in Grossraming. We are happy to pick you up from there, if you let us know in advance.
