A boutschiarigs Trichai, that is to say, a pretty girl, isn’t hard to find anywhere in the Pongau. The dialect, with influences from Southern Bavaria and Tyrol, also reflects the general zest for life shared by the people who live here.
Even though the dialect of this region of 25 communities is marked by diminutives, the people of Pongau definitely know what they want. And the area has much to offer. The main towns of Bischofshofen, Radstadt and St. Johann are home to all kinds of cultural attractions, spanning everything from a Romanesque residential tower, to the so-called Pongau Cathedral. The Pongau Regional Association has scored major successes with ambitious projects: We find culture, for example, at Hohenwerfen Castle, with its impressive bird-of-prey show, and along the Goldegg Folk-Heritage Path. Wellness, on the other hand, comes in exceptional forms, perhaps out on a healthy walk amid this therapeutic climate, perhaps along the Lithopuncture Path in Gastein Valley. Memorable nature experiences are also guaranteed at the World of Ice Giants in Werfen, the world’s biggest ice cave, in Gastein Valley at the (a natural “church”, where the persecuted Protestants were once compelled to meet in this dripstone cave), and in the Hochkönig region, home to the Übergossene Alm, an alpine region woven in countless legends. And let us not forget the impressive landscapes of Grossarltal, a valley with over 40 active hill farms.
Pongau places great store in farm products from the immediate region: And if you are lucky, who knows, maybe you will be served one of their famous Pongau by .
The old farmhouse was built in 1939 by Maria and Sepp Unterberger.
Sepp, Maria and Sepp's son, married Gerti from Großölk (Steiermark) in 1961.
In 1972, Gerti and Sepp built the new farmhouse, which at that time included several guest rooms. During this time, more and more hikers came to Halmgut and asked for a snack and drink.
Thus, Gerti obtained her food handler's permit in 1978 and Halmgut snack bar was officially opened.
Since 1998, "WE" Margret and Sepp, as the third generation run Halmgut snack bar, which we renovated in 2001.
Throughout the year, we constantly redecorate the guest rooms and apartments!
Sepp: Born in 1969, trained chef, farmer
Margret: born in 1972, trained florist from Reitdorf/Flachau, living at Halmgut since 1998.
We have been married since 2000.
